How much food does my dog need?
Dogs need about 15 calories per pound of body weight per day. In other words, a 10 lbs. dog needs 150 calories, 20 lbs. dog needs 300 calories, etc. Debbie is a 30 lbs. dog so all meals are sized for her, about 450-500 calories. Some variables would be if your dog is a puppy, pregnant, or extremely active. We recommend you consult with your vet to ensure the perfect calorie needs for your dog! What if I have a picky eater?
We suggest mixing our food with your current food for the first week or two. You can divide one meal up into a couple days. After your dog accepts the change, switch to a 100% real food diet.
How do you feed Debbie?
We keep her meals in the freezer and place a meal in the fridge the day before its needed so it can thaw out. Debbie is pretty active so she eats one full meal a day. Around 10am she gets her first half of a meal and then the last half around 4pm every day.
Can your meals be heated?
YES! This is one thing that separates us from everyone else. Dogs love a warm meal just as much as humans do. For that reason, we use packaging that is safe for the microwave. We recommend about 30 seconds in the microwave, mix it around, let it cool, and serve in your dog bowl! You can also heat the meals from frozen – just takes a little longer to defrost in the microwave.
How long do they last?
Debbie’s meals are frozen immediately, as long as they stay frozen the shelf life is over a year. Once your meal is thawed out, it will last about a week after opening the package.
What else does Debbie eat?
Debbie’s favorite snack is the trimmings from whatever Dad is cooking every night, so small pieces of steak fat, chicken, salmon, and turkey. She also loves cottage cheese with blueberries. Greek yogurt with peanut butter is her favorite dessert! You don’t want to over feed your dog, especially before bed, so keep these snacks very small
